Armen Azizyan: Effective IP protection and enforcement are key elements in strengthening regional economies

Armen Azizyan, Vice-President of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) made this statement at the plenary session of the X International Forum "Anticounterfeit-2022", held these days in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic.

“Free movement of products and services, effective protection and enforcement of intellectual property are the key elements in strengthening business activity and the economies of the countries in the region,” Armen Azizyan emphasized.

He highly appreciated the role of the forum in the economic growth of the Eurasian region, the formation of common approaches and law enforcement practices, and noted that countering the spread of counterfeit products is essential for the sustainable development of the economies of the countries of the Eurasian space.

The EAPO Vice-President also confirmed that the Office is a traditional partner of the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Counterfeit International Association for holding the forum Anticounterfeit-2022, and expressed the EAPO readiness for further effective cooperation.

Sergey Averkiev, Director of the EAPO Examination Department, and Daria Rubailo, Principal Examiner of the Division of Chemistry and Medicine, take part in the forum events. The reports of the EAPO delegates were focused on the mechanisms for combating infringement of IP rights, information technologies of the Office, national dispute resolution mechanisms and the necessity to create a Eurasian jurisdiction in IP, as well as the specifics of patenting and registration of medicines and active pharmaceutical ingredients.
