Republic of Armenia: First application for examination was submitted to the Eurasian Patent Office

20.07.2023

The application was submitted under the Agreement between the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) and the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia on cooperation in the field of patent search and examination of patent applications.

The Agreement was signed "on the sidelines" of the meeting of the EAPO Administrative Council, which was held on May 18, 2023, in Veliky Novgorod. The document was signed by Grigory Ivliev, President of the Eurasian Patent Office, and Christine Hambaryan, Head of the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia. The Agreement implies enhancement of interagency cooperation in the patent examination and, in fact, the involvement of the Eurasian Patent Office’s examiners in the examination of national patent applications.

The Agreement between the EAPO and the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Armenia stipulates strict privacy principles. Therefore, the details of the application are not disclosed.

"The receipt of the first such application is an important step towards the formation of a unitary Eurasian examination and information space. As we have already mentioned, one significant benefit of such cooperative work will be the opportunity to involve examiners from regional and other national offices, particularly those specialized in complex technical fields, in the patent search and examination. This will speed up the process of examination of national applications, both in the case of the increased workload of national offices and in the case of the lack of examiners. Moreover, the Eurasian Patent Office possesses the status of an International Searching Authority. It confirms the quality and expertise of our examiners," commented Grigory Ivliev, President of the Eurasian Patent Office, on the application from the Republic of Armenia.
