A meeting with Eurasian patent attorneys, which is traditionally dedicated to the World Intellectual Property Day, took place on April 26, 2007 at EAPO.
Eurasian patent attorneys were represented by executives and specialists of patent attorneys firms and private entrepreneurs from the Russian Federation (Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Saratov) and the Republic of Belarus.
Among the participants of the meeting were Eurasian patent attorneys, future patent attorneys, and editors of periodicals in the field of intellectual property, EAPO executives and specialists.
The EAPO President A. Grigoriev presided over the meeting.
Leading specialists of the Eurasian Patent Office informed the participants of the meeting about aspects of EAPO activity, which can be useful for their professional carrier and development of cooperation with the Office.
During the meeting much attention was paid to a more effective cooperation between EAPO and Rospatent in matters of dispute resolution dealing with validity of a Eurasian patent on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The question that did not find a common opinion among patent attorneys was the one of advisability of dispensation of Eurasian legislation in the issue of necessity on presenting a power of attorney at different stages of Eurasian application proceeding, during payment of fees, keeping the Eurasian patent valid, i.e. performing legal actions on behalf of an applicant or a patent owner.
Patent attorneys asked EAPO to prepare comments on legal protection of subjects relating to certain fields of chemistry, biotechnology, means of treatment, pharmacy and others.
Participants of the meeting also discussed prolongation of term of restoration of rights on a Eurasian application, procedure of introducing amendments and alterations into documents constituting a Eurasian application and correction of technical mistakes.
The discussion was so vivid that participants continued it even after the meeting.
In general results of the meeting showed close cooperation between EAPO and Eurasian patent attorneys in all important spheres of their mutual activity.
Just like in previous years the meeting became a tribune of a constructive dialogue and a basis for creating new ways to improve effectiveness of Eurasian patent system in future in the interests of all its participants and users.
EAPO appreciates very much active and interested participation in the meeting of all Eurasian patent attorneys and guests. We hope that participation in the meeting has become both a business and a festive event proving special attitude to the World Intellectual Property Day.
